I'm back in the saddle again!
HUGE personal news, a new website, and more
So, a LOT has happened since the last time I wrote to y’all, but here’s the biggest piece of news: I got engaged!
Amber Guffey, with whom I have been friends for nearly two decades, said yes earlier this year when I asked her to marry me. We discovered we are each other’s person, and have formed a family unit.
I have never been so happy in my adult life.
And it’s amazing how getting my domestic world settled has re-ignited my creativity in ways I could have never imagined!
Amber is also the person who coined the phrase “Treoning It” (essentially overexplaining something to death), which is the new name for this Substack. I’ll expound on that in the new year.
I’ll also post my goals for the year after January 1, but suffice to say I have more stories in more formats percolating in my brain than in about a year.
For paid subscribers, that means more scenes from a new novel (that I will actually finish!), creative essays that rise above blog posts (more on that below), plus some flash fiction!
And hopefully I’ll be sharing some non-embargoed TV and film content and news too, though that’s so far out of my control I won’t make any promises … yet.
Introducing the new RickTreon.com
For a long time, I had a very unclear picture of what I wanted my online presence to look like. So I kept my domain but had it redirect here—where I also wasn’t really posting and you couldn’t learn much of anything about me.
But, as with many things, I’m finding a path forward, and the new RickTreon.com is live!
I’m no stranger to building websites (I’m actually a Texas APME Star Award-winning online news designer, which means something to a few hundred people in the world, haha), but these days there are so many choices that make the process easy.
So I took a little time and settled on the BookBub’s new author website tool. Tertulia has a strong ad and marketing game, but the BookBub tool is just as easy, but offers more for those of us who do have some experience.
Again, what does this mean for you?
In the immediate future, you’ll get a more traditional blog experience there, and a listing of public events as I start booking them for 2026!
And now there’s finally a place where you can find all my traditionally published novels and novellas—including all the places to buy them in all formats—in one place. So feel free to share that info with anyone you think may be interested!
As for my indie work…
For both books and screen, I am still a partner in Bomb City Entertainment. To that end, the collection of short stories I published through Bomb City is available!
You can find it as a Kindle on Amazon and in print at all the usual places online like Amazon, Bookshop.org, etc.
But if you felt like directly supporting the company, you can buy a signed copy directly from me using the button below. I only have a couple on hand, so after they’re gone they would be backorders.
You can also buy unsigned copies directly from us at the button below, where we will get a bit more money.
J.R. and I plan on publishing more books through Bomb City, and creating more scripts and short films. So stay tuned!

Thrilled for ALL your new beginnings
Nice to hear from you, Rick, and congratulations! Love the title and will check out more of your writing.
